Luxman D-03R CD Player and USB DAC
Luxman D-03R is a compact disc player and D/A converter that advances Luxman’s standard player platform with a dedicated CD transport, dual-mono ROHM conversion, full MQA decoding, and a reinforced chassis for lower noise. Format support covers high-rate USB audio and 192 kHz S/PDIF, with balanced and unbalanced analog outputs for straightforward system integration.
Design and Engineering
Transport and mechanical structure
A single-laser CD mechanism mounts to a rigid steel base under a steel top plate. This box structure limits vibration and shields the audio boards so disc reading remains stable.
DAC, clocking, and processing
Two ROHM BD34352EKV chips operate in dual mono with selectable digital filters. Low-jitter circuitry and a low phase noise master clock support precise conversion. The player fully decodes MQA, including MQA-CD, and provides an MQA bypass mode when desired.
Power supply and analog stage
Regulation is segmented for transport, digital, and analog domains to reduce crosstalk. The DAC section gains larger local capacitance for stable rails. Differential outputs feed a fully balanced I/V stage and low-impedance buffer for confident drive.
Connectivity and Control
Digital inputs and formats
USB accepts PCM up to 384 kHz/32-bit and DSD up to 22.5 MHz. Coaxial and optical inputs accept up to 192 kHz/24-bit with DoP support for compatible DSD sources.
Analog outputs
Balanced XLR and 18 mm pitch RCA outputs provide fixed reference levels for easy matching to integrated amplifiers or control amps.
Display and remote
A high-resolution OLED offers zoom and multi-level dimmer with auto brightness. The supplied aluminum remote controls playback, input, dimmer, and zoom.
Improvements over D-03X
- Moves from dual PCM1795 to dual ROHM BD34352EKV converters in dual-mono
- Reinforced transport support with a steel base and steel top plate for added rigidity
- OLED display with zoom and dimmer replaces the earlier fluorescent display
- Higher-rate DSD over USB (up to 22.5 MHz) and DoP on S/PDIF inputs
- Lower published THD and higher S/N via USB, with expanded clocking emphasis
Who It Is For
Listeners who want a modern CD transport plus a high-rate USB DAC in one chassis, with clear status display, flexible digital I/O, and low-noise performance for two-channel systems.
