Luxman L-507Z Integrated Amplifier
Luxman L-507Z is a Class AB integrated amplifier that advances the Z-series platform with higher current delivery and refined control. It follows Luxman’s separates-in-one-chassis approach with short signal paths, disciplined grounding, and front-panel ergonomics that keep core functions (tone, balance, loudness, and line straight) immediately accessible beside large analog meters.
Design and Engineering
LIFES 1.0 amplification
The Integrated Feedback Engine System is applied from input buffer to output stage to achieve wide bandwidth with low phase error. Localized feedback keeps stability under complex speaker loads while preserving fine detail at low and high levels.
New LECUA1000 attenuator
Volume control uses Luxman’s electronically switched resistor ladder in 88 precise steps. The architecture maintains channel tracking at very low listening levels, integrates balance adjustment, and avoids the wear and variability of mechanical tracks.
Output stage and power supply
A triple-Darlington, triple-parallel push-pull output stage is rated 110 W + 110 W into 8 Ω and 220 W + 220 W into 4 Ω. A 600 VA EI-core transformer and eight 10,000 μF filter capacitors support sustained current delivery with low ripple. Thermal layout and protection are tuned for quiet operation and reliable startup.
Chassis and mechanical control
A rigid aluminum enclosure, internal bracing, and careful transformer mounting limit vibration. AC routing, relay placement, and PCB orientation are arranged to keep switching fields away from small-signal paths and the volume block.
Connectivity and Control
Line and balanced inputs
Multiple single-ended inputs plus a balanced XLR input accommodate digital front ends and analog sources. Line Straight bypasses tone and balance networks for the most direct path when required.
Pre out and main in
Pre Out allows integration of an external power amplifier or subwoofers. Main In lets the L-507Z operate as a dedicated power amplifier with an external preamp or home theater processor.
Speaker management
Dual speaker terminals support A, B, or A+B selection. Robust binding posts accept spades, bananas, and bare wire. Protection engages silently to avoid thumps at power on and power off.
Phono Stage
An onboard phono equalizer supports moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges. Short internal signal runs and regulated supply rails aim to minimize noise and maintain RIAA accuracy without an external stage.
Headphone Stage
Front-panel 6.3 mm and 4.4 mm outputs provide flexible connectivity. Low output impedance and independent grounding improve control with a wide range of headphones. Speaker outputs mute automatically on headphone insertion.
Everyday Usability
Startup is quick; meter illumination is even and readable. The aluminum remote covers input selection and volume. Front-panel controls have firm, repeatable detents, making small adjustments simple to set and return to.
System Matching
The L-507Z partners well with stand-mounts and many floorstanders of typical sensitivity, including speakers that benefit from higher damping. It pairs cleanly with neutral or slightly warm sources. The internal MM/MC phono stage supports a broad range of cartridges, simplifying turntable setup. For very large rooms or unusually demanding loads, Pre Out enables external amplification while keeping the same control interface.
Placement and Setup Tips
- Provide several inches of ventilation above and to the sides.
- Use Line Straight when tone shaping is unnecessary.
- For subwoofers, feed Pre Out to the sub’s line input and align crossover and phase by measurement or careful listening.
- Keep analog interconnects separated from power cords and routers to reduce background noise.
What Distinguishes It in the Lineup
Compared with L-505Z, the L-507Z adds the higher-capacity supply (600 VA, 10,000 μF × 8), higher output ratings, and a triple-Darlington, triple-parallel output stage for greater current and damping. Versus L-509Z, it keeps the same control philosophy but below the flagship’s fully dual-section architecture, offering a balance of drive, features, and size.
Who It Is For
Listeners who want a single-chassis amplifier with strong speaker control, built-in MM/MC phono, balanced input, Pre Out/Main In flexibility, and straightforward daily operation without external boxes.
