Michell Orbe Turntable
The Michell Orbe is the flagship model in the Michell lineup, designed for maximum performance, mechanical isolation, and speed accuracy. It builds upon the GyroDec platform with upgraded components, increased mass, and refined control systems.
Chassis and Suspension
The Orbe features a dual-layer acrylic plinth structure with three low-contact aluminum feet to minimize vibration transfer. A three-point spring suspension isolates the sub-chassis from external disturbances. The sub-chassis uses a central mass-loaded pillar to increase rigidity and energy control.
Platter and Bearing
At the core of the Orbe is a 60 mm-thick acrylic platter with internal damping material. Its acoustic impedance is matched to vinyl for neutral sonic characteristics and reduced resonance. The inverted bearing uses an Archimedean screw to circulate oil from a reservoir at the base up to the thrust ball, maintaining lubrication and reducing wear and noise.
Drive and Power Supply
The turntable is driven by a free‑standing DC motor enclosed in a ~3 kg metal housing to prevent vibration transfer. A precision‑ground compound belt connects the motor to the platter. The Orbe Controller power supply features a toroidal transformer and Michell’s Never Connected servo loop, providing clean, stable power and continuous speed correction for optimal accuracy.
Record Clamp and Dust Cover
The Orbe includes a screw‑down record clamp that flattens warped vinyl and improves contact between the record and platter surface, reducing unwanted resonance. A hinged, clear acrylic dust cover is supplied and can be removed as needed.
Tonearm Compatibility
The Orbe is compatible with most 9‑inch and 10‑inch tonearms. Michell supplies optional arm boards to accommodate major brands such as SME, Rega, Linn, Pro‑Ject, and others.
