Unison Research Unico Primo Integrated Amplifier
The Unico Primo is a hybrid integrated stereo amplifier capable of delivering no less than 85W RMS continuous into an 8-ohm load, with both channels driven. As is typical for Unison Research, the declared power output may be conservative to ensure performance under any condition. With dynamic and non-correlated signals (e.g., real musical content), the maximum power can be even higher.
After extensive prototyping and fine-tuning, which included long hours of listening tests, the Unico Primo is now in the final stages of production. Various sessions with different genres of music, loudspeakers, and listeners, along with numerous modifications and part selections, have resulted in a highly refined amplifier.
During the design phase of our Reference power amplifier, the Unison Research technical team thoroughly explored the sonic performance of the ECC83/12AX7 double triode in specific configurations. This led us to adopt this type of triode for the Unico line instead of the previously used ECC82/12AU7.
The Unico Primo shares its design philosophy with the UnicoP, utilizing a single double triode. However, in this new amplifier, the input and preamplifier stages have been specifically tailored for the ECC83/12AX7 tube, which offers characteristics quite different from those of the ECC82.
The driver and power stages implement solutions that have been extensively tested in the Unico amplifiers, with subtle improvements based on experience and testing. The power supply has been enhanced with a larger transformer and upgraded filter capacitors to improve dynamics, bass response, and overall driving capability.
Despite being the entry-level model in the Unico series, the Unico Primo is designed to be a competitive performer. It includes a low-impedance active stereo output for an active subwoofer or any other line-level input, and it offers the option to convert one of the line inputs to a phono input with an easy-to-install RIAA preamplifier board.
The aesthetic design features a black, hairline aluminum chassis that gives the Unico Primo a sleek and elegant appearance, with the refined surface finish and perfect proportions characteristic of Italian design. The aluminum chassis also provides high rigidity, improved sonic performance, and effective damping of spurious vibrations, thanks to the three-point suspension system.
The Unison Research technical team has invested its extensive knowledge, advanced technology, and passion into creating a compact amplifier that embodies the qualities found in our top-level, award-winning devices.
